Patient Client Voice Committee
The purpose of the Committee is to provide patient / client / family perspectives on a variety of care issues, initiatives & strategies.
Examples of topics explored in previous years include creation of the “We are the Patient Experience” video, input into patient documentation, e.g. the Patient Handbook, Welcome Package, and participation on project teams.
The value of an ongoing mechanism to get input from those using the health care system is so very important. The committee helps assess topics and can provide perspectives that staff may not have considered.
The Committee has been in place for 8 years, and is made up of patients, clients and family members, interested in SWIHSS services. It reflects 5-10 volunteer members, who typically serve a 2-year term.
- There are 4-6 meetings per year, 7:00-9:00 pm, Monday nights at Victoria Hospital.
- SWIHSS supports participation by providing meeting notices, handouts, and tea / coffee.
- Committee volunteers often go on to other engagement and governance roles within the WRHA.
The Committee aims to reflect through its membership the diversity of the community that it represents – gender, age, profession, working / not working, culture, faith, socio-economic, etc.
